From Garden to Table: A Culinary Adventure at Este

This month, our Culinary Workforce Trainees embarked on an exciting field trip to Este, a vibrant restaurant on Manor Road known for its commitment to local ingredients and sustainable practices. The experience was led by the knowledgeable Garden Manager, Anamaria Gutierrez, who guided us through their stunning community garden.

During the tour, our trainees had the opportunity to harvest fresh okra and peppers, gaining firsthand experience of the farm-to-table concept. This hands-on activity emphasized the importance of sustainable food practices and showcased the joy of working with local ingredients. It was a wonderful way for our trainees to connect with the source of their food and understand the impact of using fresh, seasonal produce in their culinary creations.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to Chef Rene, who graciously shared an insider’s view of the kitchen. Their insights into the culinary arts, along with tips on how to effectively utilize fresh ingredients, further fueled our trainees' passion for cooking. Chef Rene's mentorship provided valuable knowledge that our trainees can carry with them as they pursue careers in the culinary field.

This adventure not only enriched our trainees' understanding of sustainable food practices but also equipped them with practical skills and insights that will support their journey toward finding work in the culinary industry. We are excited to see how these experiences will shape their culinary journeys!

At Good Work Austin, we believe in fostering a strong connection between our trainees and the local food community. This trip to Este is just one of the many ways we aim to inspire and empower the next generation of culinary professionals. Stay tuned for more updates on our trainees' adventures and the valuable skills they continue to develop!
