A Report on Last Week’s Freeze

Last week, a dangerous storm brought cold temperatures and freezing rain to Austin. We asked our GWA community to step up, and we’re proud to share the results of our work.

Thanks to your generosity:

  • We enlisted 7 different GWA restaurants to prepare meals

  • We delivered 1,566 meals to those in need of emergency food and shelter

  • We took food to 14 separate locations throughout the city, including long-term shelters, emergency shelters, and warming centers

  • We provided meals for a full week, as frigid overnight temperatures persisted

  • We helped to feed senior citizens unable to venture outside, volunteers working in shelters, and first responders working around the clock

In addition to that work, we had another eight restaurants on standby, ready to provide additional meals if needed.

We are very thankful that this emergency proved to be shorter and less severe than Uri in 2021, and we are so grateful to be a part of a community — hospitality businesses, non-profit partners, and diners — that steps up during difficult times.

Thank you for supporting Good Work Austin, our locally-owned businesses, and our neighbors in need.
