“Completely Changing the Game”

In Eater’s annual roundup of restaurant news, Good Work Austin was praised by several of Austin’s most well-informed food writers and bloggers. One said we are “completely changing the game” with our work. Others noted how we stepped up during the winter freeze, how we have been advocates for the restaurant community throughout the pandemic, and how we have pushed the industry to provide better wages.

How are we changing the game?

Our work focuses on building a hospitality industry that centers around healthy employees, healthy workplaces, and healthy communities.

  • Healthy Employees: GWA helps small businesses raise their wages, offer access to health care and mental health care, implement sick leave policies, teach financial literacy, and much more.

  • Healthy Workplaces: GWA helps train small businesses to prevent sexual harassment, implement diversity and inclusion policies, and provide fulfilling community service opportunities.

  • Healthy Communities: GWA pays restaurants to feed people facing food insecurity, helps them implement better environmental policies, and provides opportunities for hospitality workers to be civically engaged.

For too long, the hospitality industry has been plagued by low wages, a lack of benefits, and toxic work environments. But together, we are making Austin a better place for the thousands of hospitality professionals that provide our community with incredible food and drink.
